Onventis ONIX turns Source-to-Pay Intelligence into Outcome
Unlike standalone AI tools or isolated agents, ONIX works within the Source-to-Pay context already available in Onventis: suppliers, contracts, transactions, spend, workflows, permissions and business rules. This enables AI not only to understand what is happening, but to determine what should happen next, prepare the appropriate action and, within defined guardrails, execute it. The result is a new operating system for AI in Source-to-Pay: AI takes over more of the work, while people remain in control.
Immediate value for procurement and finance teams
ONIX is designed to relieve procurement and finance teams from routine work and shorten the path from a business signal to a controlled outcome. Customers do not have to begin with a blank agent builder. ONIX combines ready-made applications, reusable skills, ONIX Cowork and governed autonomous agents around practical Source-to-Pay use cases.
ONIX Cowork supports people in real time: users can ask questions in plain language, find guidance, prepare content and review business information while working. It acts with the signed-in user’s existing permissions, makes suggestions and accelerates work, while the person decides. Autonomous agents are designed for multi-step processes that begin with a schedule or business event. They operate under their own scoped identity, within defined limits, and escalate exceptions for human review.
This approach is aimed specifically at mid-sized enterprises that need fast, practical value without adding another disconnected AI layer. Procurement teams gain clearer visibility across suppliers, contracts, spend and operational processes. Finance teams gain greater transparency across financial workflows, risks and controls.
The Difference between AI Tools & Onventis ONIX
Agents and operational execution alone are not the differentiator. ONIX builds on Onventis as an end-to-end Source-to-Pay platform and system of record. Supplier information, master data, contracts, sourcing, orders, invoices, spend analytics, transactions, workflows and rules form the foundation on which ONIX understands context, prepares decisions and executes approved actions.
By connecting this operational foundation with AI capabilities and application logic, ONIX can move beyond a generic answer. It can determine which supplier, contract, transaction, policy and permission are relevant, identify what should happen next and prepare the corresponding action within the same governed environment. Intelligence and controlled execution therefore come from one platform rather than from a collection of isolated tools.
From supplier-risk signal to controlled action
The supplier-risk scenario presented at the ONIX premiere demonstrates what this means in practice. ONIX identifies a deterioration in a supplier’s financial situation and connects the external risk signal with the company’s own Source-to-Pay context. Instead of simply generating another alert, it assesses the potential business impact, identifies affected purchasing volume and supplier dependencies, and prepares possible mitigation measures. The person responsible can review the evidence and proposed response before deciding which action to approve. Once approved, an autonomous agent can execute the permitted steps within its defined scope. Anything outside those boundaries is escalated for human review. This workflow illustrates the ONIX principle: detect, understand, decide and act within one governed environment.
Control and sovereignty by design
Control in ONIX is implemented through defined identities, permissions, approvals and traceable actions. ONIX Cowork works with the signed-in user’s access rights. Autonomous agents have their own scoped identity, an assigned owner and explicit operating limits. Human approval is required before changes, actions are audited, and exceptions are brought to the person responsible. The ONIX Control Tower provides centralized oversight of utilization, permissions, and autonomous operations. ONIX Studio is designed to let administrators and process owners choose AI models, connect company knowledge, business systems and tools, reuse skills, and define deployment rules and governance policies. An Agent Gateway provides a controlled access point to AI models, MCP servers and external agents, supporting security, observability and governance across an open ecosystem.
Onventis combines this governance model with a European operating model and a protected data environment. Customers retain control over model choice, access rights, policies and the deployment of AI. This allows organizations to scale AI without giving up visibility into which identity acted, under which permission, on what basis and with which approval.
The next era of Source-to-Pay
“The future of Source-to-Pay will not be defined by isolated AI agents, but by trusted intelligence that understands and orchestrates the entire process. This is exactly why we built Onventis ONIX: AI takes over the work, while people remain in control”, says Frank Schmidt, CEO Onventis. During the Onventis Xchange 2026 conference, customers and partners also underlined the importance of turning the ONIX vision into practical progress.
Silvia Svatunek, Strategic Buyer Non-Food at GMS Gourmet GmbH, connected that vision directly to operational complexity: ”I’m really looking forward to experiencing ONIX live. I believe it will make our day-to-day work much easier. We have a large number of users with very complex requirements, and I believe ONIX can really help us manage that complexity.”
Markus Dusolt, Head of Procurement DPD, said: ”We’re really looking forward to trying Onventis ONIX because we believe it has the potential to make a real difference, particularly when it comes to AI and procurement.” “ONIX brings assistance and autonomous execution together on one governed Source-to-Pay foundation,” adds Heiko Rumpl, Chief AI Officer at Onventis. “Because supplier, contract, transaction and process context are already connected in Onventis, teams can move from insight to a prepared and controlled action without creating another isolated AI environment.”
From customer beta to autonomous Source-to-Pay
With its launch at Xchange, ONIX is now moving from vision into customer validation and operational use. ONIX Cowork entered customer beta in October 2026, giving selected customers the opportunity to experience the new interaction model and help shape further product development. Autonomous agents are planned to enter beta in Q4 2026, with first agents executing end-to-end processes within defined guardrails and escalating exceptions.
From Q1 2027, ONIX Cowork and autonomous agents are planned to become available for production use alongside the beta release of the ONIX Control Tower. Further autonomous agents and external integrations are planned for Q2 2027, followed by ONIX Studio in the second half of 2027.
