Onventis is restructuring its management level, consistently strengthening its strategic focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Sovereignty. Heiko Rumpl, previously Chief Product Officer, will assume responsibility for the company-wide AI strategy as the new Chief AI Officer (CAIO). The position of Chief Product Officer (CPO) will be taken over by Dolf van den Boorn, who has already played a key role in the strategic development of the Onventis platform.

CEO Frank Schmidt explains the decision and the strategic background of the new management structure: “Artificial Intelligence is a central driver in digital procurement and requires clear responsibility at management level. With the introduction of the Chief AI Officer role and the reappointment of the Chief Product Officer, we are creating a leadership structure that brings together innovation, AI governance, and the requirements of sovereign procurement.”

As Chief AI Officer, Heiko Rumpl will be responsible for Onventis’ company-wide AI strategy. His focus will be on the further development of the agent-based AI platform Onventis Onix, the implementation of European regulations such as the EU AI Act, and an AI architecture that enables maximum data sovereignty for companies. This is based on robust technical and organizational frameworks for secure, transparent, and legally compliant data processing, including adherence to European data protection standards and clear control over data storage and processing. AI is intended to support and accelerate processes, while humans remain a fixed component of key decision-making processes.

“As Chief AI Officer, my goal is to further develop Artificial Intelligence with Onventis Onix in a responsible manner and to provide our customers with secure and transparent support in their day-to-day procurement activities,” Heiko Rumpl explains.

Responsibility for the product strategy will now lie with Dolf van den Boorn as CPO. He will drive the further development of the Onventis product portfolio and align innovation even more closely with the requirements of sovereign and digital procurement. The importance of AI for the product strategy continues to grow, particularly with regard to transparency, regulatory requirements, and the integration of intelligent functionalities that support customers in their operational day-to-day business.

“I am looking forward to jointly advancing our product strategy and deploying AI where it creates real value for our customers: secure, transparent, and responsible,” says Dolf van den Boorn.

AI and Sovereignty as Drivers of the Next Product Generation

With the new management structure, product development and AI expertise will be more closely integrated. Onventis has set clear objectives: AI is designed to strengthen procurement processes without relinquishing control or compliance. The combination of an open, agent-based AI platform, European data sovereignty, and AI usage compliant with the EU AI Act marks the next stage in the evolution of Onventis solutions and forms the foundation for the next generation of responsible, powerful, and sovereign digital procurement.
